Diamatome earth

100% pure freshwater diatomaceous earth. Also known as fossil shell meal, food grade DE is a non-toxic and safe form of pest control. Diatomite is the fossilized skeletal remains of microscopic single-celled aquatic plants called diatoms (algae). A crystal shell protects these tiny organisms. When organisms die, the shells accumulate on the bottom of oceans and lakes to form deposits. These deposits are then extracted from underwater beds or old dry lake bottoms. Once they have been extracted, they can be crushed or processed for a variety of uses.

When fossil shell meal is used in agriculture, it must be ground until it is almost completely amorphous. This means that there is no crystal form left that can damage larger organisms. Instead, it has microscopic sharp edges, which are easily picked up by the tiny hairs on the bodies of most insects. It scratches through their protective wax layers and upon absorbing it, insects quickly lose water, dehydrate and die.

Food grade diatomaceous earth contains 15 beneficial trace minerals and eliminates whipworms, roundworms, pinworms and hookworms within 7 days of daily feeding. Feed DE for at least 30 days to ensure any developing worms are destroyed.

DE has no chemical toxicity and is safe for internal use. This is an extremely effective way to eliminate pests without using chemicals. Although it is 99.5% amorphous silica, DE should not be inhaled.
