Same recipe as Acana beef freeze-dried patties, in a pre-cut bite format for quick use. 90% animal, single-protein beef, grain-free, AAFCO all life stages (except growth of large-breed puppies). 4,200 kcal/kg.

Pieces vs Patties: how to choose?

Criteria Pieces 227g Patties 397g
Format Ready-to-serve bites Patties to crumble
Main use Reward, snack, quick topper Substantial topper, travel meal
Bag format More compact More economical per kg

3 ways to use freeze-dried pieces

1. High-value training reward (preferred use)

Ready-to-serve bite format: ideal for training sessions. More effective than an ordinary treat for working on tough behaviors: recall, escape prevention, veterinary handling. Keep a bag in your pocket or in the car.

2. Quick topper on kibble

Add a handful of pieces directly on top of the usual kibble ration to boost nutritional value and palatability. Handy for picky dogs or when transitioning to a premium brand.

3. Complete meal while traveling or at the cabin

Compact, lightweight, and no refrigeration needed. Can be used as a complete meal for short periods (travel, camping, vacations). Lightly rehydrate with a little warm water to increase hydration, or serve as is with water beside it.

❄️ Why freeze-dried instead of frozen?

The freeze-drying process means freezing the ingredients first, then removing the water under vacuum at very low temperature. The result: all raw nutrients are preserved (enzymes, fragile vitamins, omega-3s), with no freezer and no messy handling. The finished product is shelf-stable, lightweight, easy to carry, and keeps for a long time.

Feeding guide

Training reward

1 to 3 pieces per rewarded behavior repetition. For a 15-20 minute training session, count on 10 to 20 pieces. Adjust regular daily rations accordingly.

Quick topper

A handful of pieces directly on the usual kibble ration. Equal to about 10-15% of the ration in calorie value. Adjust the kibble amount to avoid weight gain.

Complete meal (travel)

About 5 to 7 pieces per kg of the dog's body weight per day, split into 2 meals. Lightly rehydrate with warm water. Best used for short periods.

Storage: keep at room temperature in the sealed bag. Once opened, use within 4 to 6 weeks for optimal freshness.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between pieces and patties?

Same ingredients (with one variation: mackerel in the pieces vs herring in the beef patties), same process, same quality. The format changes: the pieces are pre-cut into ready-to-serve bites, perfect for rewards or quick toppers. The patties are larger and crumble by hand, making them more practical for substantial toppers or full meals.

Is this a treat or a complete food?

Legally, it is an AAFCO complete food. But the ready-to-serve bite format is typically used as a high-value reward or as a topper, rather than as the only meal.

My dog is allergic to chicken — is this a good option?

Yes. The beef recipe is a single-protein red meat. The only other animal ingredient is whole mackerel (fish) for omega-3s. No trace of chicken, turkey, lamb, or pork.

For a large-breed puppy?

The beef recipe is the only one of the 4 flavors that is NOT recommended for growth in dogs expected to be >70 lb as adults. If your puppy will reach that size, look instead at the Duck, Turkey or Chicken recipes, formulated for AAFCO all life stages including large breed.

Why mackerel instead of herring?

Minor formulation difference between the pieces and patties versions: the beef pieces use mackerel as the omega-3 source (herring in the patties). Both are fatty fish rich in DHA/EPA, and the nutritional profile remains equivalent.
