❄️ 90% animal, cold freeze-dried: the benefits of raw without the mess

Beef, beef liver, whole herring, bone, tripe, kidneys. Cold freeze-drying that preserves natural nutrients. 4,130 kcal/kg, 103 kcal per patty. No freezer, no high-heat cooking, no mess. AAFCO all life stages (except growth for large-breed puppies).

Why choose Acana freeze-dried beef patties?

  • 90% animal ingredients : beef, liver, kidneys, tripe, beef bone, whole herring
  • Cold freeze-dried : preserves raw enzymes and nutrients
  • Single-protein beef : no other land-based meat (except herring as an omega-3 source)
  • Beef bone broth infused: exceptional palatability
  • No grains, no added legumes : a very pure recipe
  • Organic vegetables and fruits : pumpkin, butternut squash, carrots, pears (all organic)
  • Functional botanicals : chicory root, turmeric, kelp
  • AAFCO all life stages (except growth for dogs expected to weigh >70 lb as adults)
  • Very energy-dense : 4,130 kcal/kg, 103 kcal per patty
  • Convenient patty format : crumble over kibble or serve as is
  • Made by Champion Petfoods (same facilities as Orijen)

3 ways to use freeze-dried patties

1. Topper on kibble (most common use)

Crumble one patty or half a patty over the regular kibble ration to boost nutritional value, add palatability, and entice picky dogs. Great for transitioning to a premium brand or for getting a dog to eat when they are being finicky.

2. Complete meal while traveling or at the cabin

Compact, lightweight, and does not require refrigeration. Perfect for trips, camping, the cabin, or vacations. You can rehydrate lightly with a little warm water before serving to increase hydration, or serve as is with water on the side.

3. High-value training treat

Breaking a patty into small pieces makes rewards dogs love during training sessions. Especially useful for working on difficult behaviors (recall, escape prevention, veterinary handling).

❄️ Why freeze-dried instead of frozen?

Freeze-drying (freeze-drying) involves freezing the ingredients and then removing the water under vacuum at very low temperature. The result: all the nutrients of raw food (enzymes, delicate vitamins, omega-3s), without a freezer or messy handling. The finished product is shelf-stable, lightweight, easy to carry, and keeps for a long time. It's the most convenient way to feed raw food to your dog.

💰 Why are the patties so expensive?

The freeze-drying process is slow and costly: allow 24 to 48 hours to produce one bag. The concentration level is huge: a 397 g bag is equivalent to about 1.6 kg of fresh meat before freeze-drying. That explains the price. For an average dog, use it mainly as a topper, travel or reward rather than an exclusive daily meal.

Usage guide

Topper on kibble

1/4 to 1 patty per day depending on the dog's size and kibble ration. Crumble over regular food. For a "wake-up" effect on a picky dog, start with 1/4 patty and increase if needed.

Complete meal (travel, occasional use)

Allow approximately 10 patties per 10 kg of dog per day, divided into 2 meals. Rehydrate lightly with warm water to increase hydration. Best used for short periods (travel, camping) rather than as a daily exclusive diet (for cost reasons).

Training reward

Break one patty into 4 to 8 pieces to make high-value rewards. Very useful for recall and difficult behaviors.

Storage: keep at room temperature in the sealed bag. Once opened, consume within 4 to 6 weeks for optimal freshness.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a complete food or a treat?

Legally, it is an AAFCO complete food formulated for all life stages (except growth for dogs expected to weigh >70 lb as adults). But given the price, it is usually used as a topper on kibble or as a high-value reward. For travel or when cooking is unavailable, it can serve as an emergency complete meal.

My dog is allergic to chicken; is this a good option?

Yes. The beef recipe is single-protein : beef and beef organ meats as the main proteins. The only other animal ingredient is whole herring (fish) for omega-3s. No trace of chicken, turkey, lamb, or pork.

Will my dog turn into a food fiend after tasting this?

Possible! Dogs usually love freeze-dried patties. That's exactly the point: bring back excitement at mealtime. To avoid dependence, vary how you use it (sometimes as a topper, sometimes as a reward, sometimes not at all).

Should it be rehydrated?

Optional. You can serve it as is (while making sure water is available) or add a little warm water to let it puff up before serving. The rehydrated option increases your dog's hydration and is often preferred for complete meals.

For a large-breed puppy?

The beef recipe is the only one of the 4 flavors that is NOT recommended for growth for dogs expected to weigh >70 lb as adults. If your puppy will reach that size, look instead at the Duck, Turkey or Chicken recipes, formulated to AAFCO all life stages including large breed.
