  • Functional botanicals: chicory root, turmeric, kelp

  • Made by Champion Petfoods (same facilities as Orijen)

3 ways to use freeze-dried patties

1. Topper on kibble (most common use)

Crumble one patty or half a patty over your dog’s regular kibble ration to boost nutritional value, add palatability, and entice picky dogs. Great for transitioning to a premium brand or getting a dog to eat when they’re being fussy.

2. Complete meal while traveling or at the cabin

Compact, lightweight, and does not require refrigeration. Perfect for trips, camping, the cabin, or vacations. You can rehydrate slightly with a little warm water before serving to increase hydration, or serve as is with water on the side.

3. High-value training treat

Breaking a patty into small pieces makes highly prized rewards for dogs during training sessions. Especially useful for working on difficult behaviors (recall, anti-escape, veterinary handling).

❄️ Why freeze-dried instead of frozen?

The freeze-drying process (freeze-drying) involves freezing the ingredients and then removing the water under vacuum at very low temperature. The result: all the raw nutrients are preserved (enzymes, fragile vitamins, omega-3s), without a freezer or messy handling. The finished product is shelf-stable, lightweight, easy to transport, and keeps for a long time. It’s the most practical way to serve raw food to your dog.

🍗 The classic recipe: single-protein chicken

Chicken is the most universally loved animal protein among dogs. This single-protein recipe is the safe choice for most dogs that don’t have a known chicken allergy. Combined with organs (liver, heart, gizzard), which provide nutritional density, and herring for omega-3s, it’s a complete and highly palatable profile.

Complete ingredient list

Chicken with ground bone, chicken organs (liver, heart, gizzard), whole herring, pumpkin, natural chicken flavor, chicken bone broth, organic butternut squash, organic carrots, organic pears, calcium carbonate, dried chicory root, turmeric, dried kelp, salt, mixed tocopherols (preservative), vitamins (vitamin E supplement, niacin, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, calcium pantothenate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, folic acid, vitamin B12 supplement), minerals (zinc proteinate, copper proteinate), citric acid (preservative), rosemary extract.

Feeding guide

Topper on kibble

1/4 to 1 patty per day depending on the dog’s size and kibble ration. Crumble over regular food. For a “wake-up” effect on a picky dog, start with 1/4 patty and increase if needed.

Complete meal (travel, occasional)

Allow approximately 10 patties per 10 kg of dog per day, divided into 2 meals. Lightly rehydrate with warm water to increase hydration. Best used for short periods (travel, camping) rather than exclusively every day (cost reasons).

Training reward

Break a patty into 4 to 8 pieces to make high-value rewards. Very useful for recall and difficult behaviors.

Storage: store at room temperature in the resealed bag. Once opened, use within 4 to 6 weeks for optimal freshness.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a complete food or a treat?

Legally, it is an AAFCO complete food formulated for all life stages, including growth of large-breed dogs. But given the price, it’s usually used as a topper on kibble or as a high-value reward. For travel or when cooking isn’t available, it can serve as a backup complete meal.

My dog is allergic to chicken, is this a good option?

No. This recipe is single-protein chicken. For a dog allergic to chicken, look at the beef recipe instead (single-protein red meat) or turkey (another single-protein poultry recipe).

For a large-breed puppy?

Yes, it’s one of the 3 recipes (along with duck and turkey) formulated AAFCO All Life Stages including growth of large-breed dogs. Calcium is controlled to support bone growth.

Which patty recipe should I choose for my dog?

Here’s a quick guide:

  • Chicken (this recipe): the classic choice, for most dogs, single-protein
  • Turkey: for dogs allergic to chicken who tolerate turkey, single-protein
  • Duck: multi-poultry (duck + turkey + chicken organs), highest protein profile
  • Beef: for dogs allergic to poultry, single-protein red meat (except very large-breed puppies)

Should I rehydrate it?

Optional. You can serve it as is (with access to water) or add a little warm water to let it puff up before serving. The rehydrated option increases your dog’s hydration and is often more appreciated as a complete meal.
