Switching to senior food is not a fixed-age issue: it is more a matter of overall condition. As a rule of thumb, small breeds age later (8-10 years), medium breeds around 7-8 years, and large breeds earlier (5-6 years). Signs to watch for: weight gain, stiffness, low energy. 💪 Protein for older dogs: yes or no?
Contrary to old beliefs, senior dogs benefit just as much, if not more, from good protein intake than adult dogs do. It is muscle loss (sarcopenia) that threatens aging dogs, not a "protein overload" to worry about. The logic of a senior recipe is therefore to reduce calories (especially fat) while keeping quality proteins. That is exactly what Acana Senior does.
