Acana Adult: Champion Petfoods quality, in a more accessible recipe

The Acana Adult food is the signature recipe in Acana's Heritage line. Made in Canada (Alberta) by Champion Petfoods, in the same facility as its premium sibling Orijen. Multi-animal protein (fresh chicken, turkey, hake, herring, eggs, organs), with no added grain, energy-rich for active adult dogs, all at a more accessible price than the Orijen range.

🇨🇦 The Champion Petfoods philosophy, more accessible

Same manufacturer as Orijen, same Canadian factory, same multi-protein commitment. Acana offers an excellent animal-ingredient ratio with a larger share of meals (concentrated) rather than everything being fresh, which makes the recipe more accessible. No added grain ingredients.

Why choose Acana Adult?

  • Fresh chicken (21 %) as the first ingredient + chicken meal (20 %) to concentrate protein intake
  • Multi-animal protein : chicken, turkey, hake, herring, eggs, organs, turkey liver
  • Fish oil (3.5 %) and herring meal (3 %) : a natural source of marine omega-3s
  • No added grains : legume base (red lentils, peas, chickpeas, green lentils, yellow peas)
  • High in animal protein
  • Fresh vegetables and fruit : pumpkin, butternut squash, carrots, apples, pears, zucchini, kale, spinach
  • Superfoods : cranberries, blueberries, saskatoons
  • Functional botanicals : turmeric, milk thistle, burdock root, marshmallow root, rose hips
  • Live probiotics : Enterococcus faecium
  • Made in Canada in the DogStar kitchen in Morinville (Alberta)

Who is this recipe for?

  • Active adult dogs, all sizes
  • Owners who want premium Canadian food, without reaching Orijen's price
  • Dogs that digest poultry well (chicken first)
  • Dogs you want to keep away from wheat, corn, soy or standard industrial recipes

🤔 Acana vs Orijen: what's the difference?

Both brands are made in Canada by the same producer (Champion Petfoods, Alberta). Orijen goes further with 85 % animal ingredients that are mostly fresh or raw, greater protein variety, and a higher protein ratio. Acana keeps the same no-added-grain, multi-protein philosophy, but uses more meals (concentrated) than fresh meats, which makes the recipe more affordable while still being clearly above standard brands. It's an excellent choice when you want Champion Petfoods know-how without Orijen's price tag.

🍗 Meals vs fresh meat: what that means

The fresh meat contains about 70 % water. Once dried into meal, it loses that water and becomes ~3 to 4 times more concentrated in protein. So 20 % chicken meal is protein-equivalent to about 65 to 80 % fresh chicken. Both forms have their place: fresh meat adds taste and palatability, while meal adds protein concentration. Acana combines both.

Featured ingredients

Fresh chicken (21 %) as the first ingredient for palatability, combined with chicken meal (20 %) to concentrate protein intake. An approach that maximizes protein and taste at the same time.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Acana and Orijen?

Both brands are produced by Champion Petfoods in the same factory in Alberta. Orijen goes further (85 % animal ingredients that are mostly fresh or raw, greater protein diversity, higher protein). Acana keeps the same no-added-grain, multi-protein philosophy, but combines fresh meats and meals to stay more accessible. It's an excellent premium option at a mid-range price.

"No added grains"—what does that mean exactly?

Acana Adult contains no added grains (no wheat, corn, rice, oats, etc.). Carbohydrates come from legumes (lentils, peas) and fresh vegetables.

Will my dog like the taste?

Fresh chicken as the first ingredient ensures excellent palatability. Acana is generally very well accepted by dogs, even picky ones. Allow 10 to 14 days for a gentle transition from another food.

Is it suitable for puppies?

For puppies, there is a dedicated recipe: Acana Puppy, or Acana Small Breed Puppy and Acana Large Breed Puppy depending on the expected adult size.

Is it suitable for small breeds?

Yes, but we also have Acana Adult Small Breed with a smaller kibble, better suited to small jaws.
