How it works — a gradual, humane system

Many owners hesitate because they worry it is "cruel." The reality: the SDF-100C-C is designed so that electrostatic stimulation is the last resort, not the first.

As your dog approaches the invisible boundary, the collar triggers a 3-step sequence:

1. 🔔 Warning tone — The dog hears an audible signal. In most cases, that is enough.
2. 📳 Vibration — If the dog keeps going, the collar vibrates. Often enough to make him back away.
3. ⚡ Static stimulation — If the dog still insists, a controlled stimulation is triggered. It is not a painful shock — it feels similar to static electricity from a carpet. You can test it on your hand before using it on your dog.

Installation — the real reality

Time required: 4 to 8 hours depending on your yard (a quiet Saturday).

Tools needed:

• A spade or edger (if you bury the wire)
• Phillips screwdriver
• That's it.

Two methods to choose from:

• On the ground — The wire can stay on the surface; the grass will cover it within a few weeks. Quick solution.
• Buried — 1 to 3 inches deep. More discreet and permanent. You can also attach it to an existing non-metal fence.

General steps:

1. Mark out the desired perimeter
2. Lay or bury the wire
3. Install the warning flags (100 included)
4. Plug the transmitter into the house or garage
5. Set the correction zone (between 2 and 12 feet before the wire)
6. Charge the collar and test it

Training — the step most people underestimate

The system only works if your dog understands where the boundaries are. The good news: most dogs grasp the concept in just 2 or 3 days. For a reliable, lasting result that holds up against distractions, allow 10 to 14 days of gradual training.

Week 1: You walk your dog on a leash around the perimeter. When he hears the tone, you guide him back toward the center of the yard and reward him. Several short sessions per day.

Week 2: You introduce distractions (another dog, squirrel, passing car) while staying close enough to step in.

After 2 weeks: Most dogs respect the boundary without any intervention. The flags can be gradually removed over another 2 to 4 weeks.

Frequently asked questions

Is it cruel for my dog? No, when the system is used correctly. The tone → vibration → stimulation sequence is designed so the dog learns without suffering. Most well-trained dogs receive almost no stimulation after the first few weeks. If in doubt, start at level 1 and increase only if needed.

How long before my dog understands? Most dogs already understand the concept well after just 2 or 3 days. For complete, reliable training (that holds up against distractions — squirrels, passersby, other dogs), allow 10 to 14 days of supervised training. More stubborn or less receptive dogs may take 3 to 4 weeks.

What if my dog still gets out by accident? It is rare with complete training, but possible (an intense squirrel chase, for example). The anti-linger feature and the 7 stimulation levels let you adjust for more determined dogs. Once out, the dog may hesitate to come back in — which is why proper recall training matters.

Can other animals get in (cats, raccoons, deer)? Yes, the system only controls SportDOG collars. Other animals can come and go freely. If that is a problem, a real fence is the only real solution.

How long does the collar battery last? Between 1 and 2 months depending on use. A full recharge takes 2 to 3 hours.

What if the cable is damaged? The wire-break alarm alerts you immediately. You locate the break, reconnect it with a waterproof connector (2 included), and you're back up and running. Most breaks happen during snow removal (another reason to bury the wire).

Can I add a second dog? Yes, the number of compatible collars is unlimited. Additional collars are sold separately.
