Black soldier fly larvae: the sustainable protein revolution
25% protein, 15% fat, extremely hypoallergenic. AAFCO adult. Carbon footprint up to 96% lower to conventional beef-based foods, for an equal amount of protein. No chicken, beef, lamb, pork, turkey, fish, or eggs.
Black soldier fly larvae: why it’s revolutionary
The black soldier fly larvae (BSF) are one of the most efficient and sustainable protein sources ever developed. They are raised on organic waste (food upcycling) and reach their final weight in 2 weeks, compared with 2 years for cattle. The result: water and arable land requirements reduced by more than 95%, and a carbon footprint that can drop to 4% of that of beef. Nutritionally, BSF provide the 10 essential amino acids, are rich in lauric (natural antimicrobial fatty acid) and minerals. It is the Future food that we can serve today.
⚠️ Shellfish allergy: one thing to check
The Dogs and people allergic to shellfish (shrimp, lobster, crab) may also be allergic to insects, because they share certain structural proteins. If a shellfish allergy is known in your dog or in the family, introduce the food progressively and monitor the initial reactions. If in doubt, contact our team to discuss a smooth transition.

Yes, that's actually its main use case. Insects are a true new protein that the vast majority of dogs have never eaten, so the chances of an allergy having already developed are almost zero. Stay vigilant if your dog has a known shellfish allergy (see warning above).
` new ideal protein for an elimination diet. The vast majority of dogs have never eaten black soldier fly larvae, making it a safe option to start with. To plan an elimination diet, contact our team.
Yes, by far. The Black soldier fly larvae require: less than 0.3 m² per kg of protein produced (vs 250 m² for beef), virtually no water (vs 22,000 L for 1 kg of beef), and can be fed organic waste. According to independent analyses, their carbon footprint can be as low as around 4% of beef's for an equivalent amount of protein.
The Wilder Harrier insect-based food is our premium choice for dogs with multiple allergies or for owners who are mindful of their environmental footprint. It is also a way to support a pioneering Quebec brand reimagining the future of canine nutrition.
