🦃 Certified Humane turkey + authentic ancient grains + zero legumes
Humanely raised turkey + oats + sorghum + quinoa + brown rice + chia seeds. 26% protein, 15% fat, with taurine boosted to 0.2%. No peas, no lentils, no potatoes: the alternative for dogs that tolerate grains.
🌾 Why ancient grains and not wheat or corn?
Oats, sorghum, quinoa, and brown rice are authentic ancient whole grains cultivated for thousands of years. Unlike modern wheat and corn, they are minimally processed, gluten-free or low in gluten, and offer a much richer nutritional profile: soluble fiber, complementary plant proteins, B vitamins, manganese, magnesium, and natural antioxidants. They are also better tolerated by most dogs.
🦃 Certified Humane®: humanely raised turkey
The turkey in this recipe carries the Certified Humane® certification, one of the most demanding humane farming programs in North America: adequate space to move, access to the outdoors, feed without routine antibiotics, and respectful slaughter.
🔍 Radical traceability: the Open Farm signature
Open Farm is one of the few brands in the world to offer full traceability: a batch code printed on the bag provides access to the list of farms that supplied each ingredient. Radical transparency that goes beyond standard certifications.

Main source of animal protein. Humanely raised on certified partner farms, with no routine antibiotics or growth hormones. Turkey is a gentle alternative protein to chicken, ideal for rotation.
Gentle ancient grains for digestion: oats are a source of soluble fiber (beta-glucans), and sorghum is rich in antioxidants and naturally gluten-free.
The quinoa offers a complete protein profile (all 9 essential amino acids). Brown rice is a whole grain providing fiber, B vitamins, and slowly absorbed carbohydrates.
Sources of marine protein and omega-3s (EPA and DHA). Natural support for skin, coat, and joints.
A super-seed rich in plant-based omega-3s (ALA), soluble fiber, and antioxidants. Helps maintain intestinal hydration.
The pumpkin and apples provide soluble fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants. Chicory root is a natural source of inulin, a prebiotic that feeds beneficial gut flora.
Coconut oil provides medium-chain fatty acids for energy. Salmon oil concentrates essential marine omega-3s.
Cinnamon helps regulate blood sugar. Turmeric provides curcumin, a natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. The added taurine at 0.2% supports heart function, important for all dogs.

The Grain-Free Turkey and Chicken recipe (signature) combines both poultry and uses no grains: the carbohydrates come from chickpeas, lentils, field peas, and potatoes. The current recipe (Turkey with Ancient Grains) is a turkey mono-protein and takes the opposite approach: it uses ancient grains (oats, sorghum, quinoa, brown rice) and completely excludes legumes and potatoes.
Most dogs tolerate ancient grains like oats, sorghum, quinoa, and brown rice very well. True grain allergies are rare (around 1 to 2% of dogs). The most common sensitivities involve wheat, corn, and soy, which are not present in this recipe.
Open Farm chose to add taurine in a generous amount (0.2%) across its ancient grains dog line, as enhanced support for heart function. Taurine is an amino acid dogs can normally synthesize, but direct intake is a plus for maintaining good heart health.
Yes, turkey has a slightly different protein profile and is often better tolerated than chicken in dogs with a chicken sensitivity. It's also an excellent protein for rotation to help prevent the development of new allergies.
Each bag has a batch code that identifies the farms and suppliers that contributed to that specific batch (turkey, fish, grains, vegetables). It's unique transparency in the industry: Open Farm publishes the full list of its suppliers.
Open Farm Turkey with Ancient Grains is our choice for families who want a turkey mono-protein paired with nourishing complex grains. It's also an excellent choice for protein rotation (an alternative to chicken) or for dogs that do not tolerate legumes. Traceable, sustainable, Canadian brand.
