Why ancient grains rather than wheat or corn?
Oats, millet, quinoa, and brown rice are true Ancient whole grains, grown for thousands of years. Unlike modern wheat and corn, they are minimally processed, gluten-free low in gluten, and offer a a much richer nutritional profile : soluble fiber, complementary plant proteins, B vitamins, manganese, magnesium, and natural antioxidants. They are also better tolerated by most dogs.
100% grass-fed beef AND grass-finished
The distinction grass-fed AND grass-finished important: many "grass-fed" operations still finish their animals on grain in the final months. Open Farm sources from farms where the beef is fed grass for its entire life. Result: meat richer in natural omega-3s`, in CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) and fat-soluble vitamins.
Radical traceability: the Open Farm signature
Open Farm is one of the the only brands in the world to offer complete traceability: a batch code The print on the bag makes it possible to identify the farms and suppliers that contributed to this specific lot. Radical transparency that goes far beyond standard certifications.

The recipe Grain-Free Beef is even more premium: it uses grass-fed Wagyu beef with beef livers, and the carbohydrates come from legumes (chickpeas, field peas) and sweet potato. The recipe Beef with Ancient Grains uses grass-fed/grass-finished beef (non-Wagyu), combined with ancient grains (oats, millet, quinoa, brown rice). The price is also more affordable.
Most dogs tolerate ancient grains very well. True grain allergies are rare (around 1 to 2% of dogs). The most common sensitivities involve wheat, corn, and soy, which are not not present in this recipe.
Many "grass-fed" farms still feed their animals grains in the final months to speed up weight gain. Open Farm sources from farms where the beef is grass-fed its whole life (grass-finished). It is rarer, takes longer, and costs more, but it produces nutritionally superior meat: more omega-3s, more CLA, more vitamins.
Open Farm has chosen to add taurine in generous quantities (0.2%) throughout its range of ancient grains as enhanced support for the cardiac function. Taurine is an amino acid that dogs can normally synthesize, but a direct intake is a plus for maintaining good heart health.
Open Farm Ancient Grains Beef food is our choice for families who want premium grass-fed beef combined with nourishing grains and complex carbohydrates. It’s an accessible alternative to the grain-free Wagyu range for those who prefer to avoid legumes. Traceable, sustainable, Canadian brand.
