Nutram Ideal I12 weight control cat chicken and barley: satiety and active metabolism

The Nutram Ideal Solution Support I12 is a dry food with wholesome grains specifically formulated for cats with weight-control needs. High in fiber (pumpkin, chicory root, pea fiber) to help keep cats full longer, enriched with L-carnitine to support fat metabolism, and with built-in urinary tract support — a combo that’s especially useful for less active indoor cats.

Why choose Nutram Ideal I12?

  • ⚖️ Active weight control : longer satiety + metabolic support
  • 💪 Added L-carnitine : helps turn fat into energy
  • 🎃 Generous fiber : pumpkin, chicory root (prebiotic), and pea fiber for satiety
  • 💚 Added taurine : essential for cats (vision, heart)
  • 🍗 Chicken and salmon : quality protein to help preserve muscle mass during weight loss
  • 🌾 Barley as the main grain : low glycemic index, steady energy
  • 💧 Urinary tract support : cranberries + celery seeds + balanced pH
  • Omega-3 : salmon oil and flaxseed for skin and coat
  • 🥬 Antioxidants : pomegranate and cranberries
  • 🇨🇦 Made in Canada, in Ontario, with no recalls

Who is this recipe for?

  • 🐱 Overweight or obese cats that need to lose weight
  • 🐱 Cats prone to gaining weight (neutered, less active, indoor)
  • 🐱 Spayed or neutered cats (slower metabolism after surgery)
  • 🐱 Food-seeking cats (prolonged satiety helps)
  • 🐱 Senior cats that slow down and put on weight

⚖️ How does weight control work?

Three levers work together: (1) More fiber = cat stays full longer, fewer “I’m hungry” moments. (2) L-carnitine = helps burn fat for energy. (3) Maintained protein = helps preserve muscle mass during weight loss. Combined with adjusted portions and a bit of active play, it works.

Featured ingredients

💪 L-carnitine

An amino acid that helps transport fatty acids to the mitochondria (the cell’s “energy factories”) so they can be burned. It’s the secret behind quality “weight control” recipes.

🎃 Pumpkin, chicory root and pea fiber

A trio of complementary fibers: pumpkin soothes and adds bulk, chicory feeds the gut flora (prebiotic), and pea fiber helps keep cats full longer. The cat feels satisfied for longer.

💚 Taurine

An essential amino acid for cats. Always added to Nutram cat recipes.

🍗 Chicken meal, deboned chicken and salmon meal

High-quality proteins at the top of the ingredient list: critical for preserving muscle mass while the cat loses fat.

💧 Cranberries and celery seeds

Urinary tract support: especially important for neutered/indoor cats that drink little.

🥬 Pomegranate

Rich in antioxidant polyphenols, supports immunity and vitality.

Daily feeding guide

For weight loss, the amount depends on the cat’s target weight (not their current weight). For a cat in maintenance after weight loss, here are some guidelines:

Cat's target weight Daily amount (approx.)
3 kg (6,6 lb) 1/4 to 1/3 cup
4 kg (8,8 lb) 1/3 to 1/2 cup
5 kg (11 lb) 1/2 to 5/8 cup
6 kg (13 lb) 5/8 to 3/4 cup

For an overweight cat, contact our team: we’ll help you set up a gradual weight-loss plan (losing weight too quickly is risky for cats). Fresh water should always be available.

Frequently asked questions

Does my cat really need to lose weight?

A healthy cat has a shape where you can feel the ribs without pressing, and a visible waist when viewed from above. If your cat looks more like a “barrel,” then yes, it’s time. Long-term excess weight increases the risk of diabetes, joint problems, and urinary issues.

How long before I see results?

Healthy weight loss in cats is slow : 1 to 2% of body weight per week at most. For a 6 kg cat that needs to lose 1 kg, expect 8 to 12 weeks. Losing weight too quickly is dangerous (hepatic lipidosis).

My cat is asking for more food, what should I do?

That’s normal at the start. The recipe’s fiber helps, but you can also split the ration into 3-4 small meals throughout the day instead of 2, and make sure plenty of fresh water is available. Puzzle feeders can also help slow down eating.

My cat is just a little chubby — is it really necessary?

Even a few hundred grams too much on a 4 kg cat is the equivalent of several kilos on a human. It’s better to act early with an appropriate recipe than wait until it becomes serious.
