Nutram Ideal I17 indoor cat chicken and whole eggs: the hairball solution

The Nutram Ideal Solution Support I17 is a dry food with wholesome grains formulated specifically for indoor cats. Lower in fat (indoor cats are less active), rich in special fibers (psyllium, cellulose, pumpkin, peas) to help the natural elimination of hairballs, and generous in omega-3 for skin and coat. The winning combo for the reality of a cat that spends its days at home.

Why choose Nutram Ideal I17?

  • 🏠 For indoor cats : less fat, more suitable fiber
  • 🧢 Hairball control : psyllium + cellulose + pumpkin + pea fiber in synergy
  • 🍗 Chicken and whole eggs : eggs in 3rd place on the list, highly digestible proteins
  • 💚 Added taurine : essential for cats
  • High omega-3 : salmon oil + flaxseed for healthy skin and a shiny coat
  • 🌾 Wholesome grains : oats, brown rice, pearled barley
  • 💧 Urinary support : cranberries + celery seeds (indoor cats are at risk)
  • 🥬 Antioxidants : pomegranate, cranberries
  • 🌿 Anti-inflammatory : turmeric and ginger
  • 🌿 Soothing chamomile
  • 🇨🇦 Made in Canada, in Ontario, no recall

Who is this recipe for?

  • 🐱 Cats that live exclusively indoors
  • 🐱 Cats that often cough up hairballs
  • 🐱 Long-haired or medium-long-haired cats (persian, maine coon, ragdoll, norwegian, etc.)
  • 🐱 Less active cats, neutered, or a bit of a couch potato
  • 🐱 Cats that groom themselves a lot

🧢 How do fibers help against hairballs?

When a cat grooms itself, it swallows hair. Normally, it passes through the digestive tract and is eliminated naturally in the stool. But if digestion is slow, the hair builds up in the stomach and ends up being regurgitated (the famous cat “a-r-r-r-rgh”). The fibers in I17 (psyllium, cellulose, pumpkin, pea fiber) speed up and regulate digestion : the hair comes out the bottom rather than the top.

🏠 Why a specific indoor cat formula?

An indoor cat burns fewer calories than a cat that hunts outside. A lower-fat formula helps prevent weight gain. Added to that are the typical needs of indoor cats: less stimulation = more grooming = more hairballs, and less natural hydration = more urinary risks. I17 addresses all three issues.

Featured ingredients

🧢 Psyllium, cellulose and pumpkin

The three special “hair control” fibers. Psyllium is a mucilaginous fiber that helps hair move through the intestines. Cellulose adds bulk. Pumpkin gently supports digestion.

🥚 Whole eggs

In 3rd place on the ingredient list: a complete protein with an ideal amino acid profile and highly digestible.

🐟 Salmon oil and flaxseed

Sources of omega-3. For an indoor cat, this is essential for maintaining a healthy coat (so less dead hair to swallow) and healthy skin.

💚 Taurine

An essential amino acid for cats, always added by Nutram.

💧 Cranberries and celery seeds

Preventive urinary support: indoor cats often drink less and are at risk.

Daily feeding guide

Here are some guidelines for an adult indoor cat (adjust as needed based on activity level and body condition):

Cat weight Daily ration (approximate)
3 kg (6,6 lb) 1/3 cup
4 kg (8,8 lb) 1/2 cup
5 kg (11 lb) 5/8 cup
6 kg (13 lb) 3/4 cup
7 kg (15 lb) 7/8 cup

Important: fresh water should always be available, ideally in several places around the home. Indoor cats often drink very little — a water fountain can help encourage them to drink.

Frequently asked questions

My cat coughs up hairballs once a week, is that normal?

Occasionally, yes. But if it happens regularly (once a week or more), or if your cat seems uncomfortable, a recipe like I17 can help a lot. Regular brushing is also an excellent addition, especially for long-haired cats.

How long before I see a difference in hairballs?

After the transition period (7-10 days), most owners notice an improvement within 2 to 4 weeks. Stools often become a bit larger (that’s the effect of fiber and it’s normal).

My cat sometimes has access to the outdoors, is that a problem?

No. I17 is also a very good fit for cats with limited outdoor access. If your cat is very active outside, take a look at S5 instead (classic balanced recipe), which provides a bit more energy.

Is it suitable for senior cats?

Yes, especially for indoor seniors who are slowing down. The lower-fat formula suits them well.
