Freedom for your dog. Peace of mind for you.
No wire to bury. No trench to dig. No fence to build. The PetSafe Stay & Play wireless fence creates a secure play area of up to 3/4 acre around your home, and sets up in 1 to 2 hours. Plug the transmitter into an outlet, adjust the radius, place the training flags, and your dog gets their freedom back.
And best of all: you can take it wherever you go. Camping, cottage, RV trips, holidays at the in-laws', the Stay & Play fits in a backpack.
How it works
The transmitter, plugged in inside your home, sends out a circular radio signal with an adjustable radius (from 22 to 105 feet in all directions). When your dog gets close to the invisible boundary, the collar first emits a warning beep. If they keep going, a mild static correction reminds them to head back toward the house.
The collar offers 6 modes in total: a tone-only mode (ideal for training and sensitive dogs) and 5 adjustable correction levels based on your dog's temperament. And the good news is: no correction when returning to the zone, your dog will never be "punished" for coming back home.
Why choose the Stay & Play over another model

-
25% smaller collar and more ergonomic for your dog's comfort
-
Rechargeable Li-Ion battery, no more disposable batteries to keep buying
-
105-foot radius instead of 90 feet
-
LCD screen that shows the zone size and alerts in real time
-
Power outage audible alarm for up to 30 minutes to warn you
-
Compatible with the old PIF-300 if you already have collars at home

Is it the right choice for your situation?
The Stay & Play is ideal if:
- Your yard is flat or only slightly uneven, roughly circular or square in shape
- You have less than 3/4 acre to cover (or are willing to add a 2nd transmitter)
- Your dog weighs 5 lb or more and is 6 months or older
- You rent, plan to move, or travel with your dog
- You want to preserve the view without a physical fence
- You're looking for a quick solution to install without digging
Consider another model if:
- Your yard is very sloped or heavily wooded (less stable signal), check out our wired models
- Your yard is very long or L-shaped (wireless is necessarily circular)
- Your dog is under 6 months old or weighs less than 5 lb
- You have a dog with a very high prey drive or that is very reactive (no system replaces supervision)
How to train your dog
Training is the key to success. Without it, the system will not work. Plan on 2 to 4 weeks, with 3 sessions of 10-15 minutes per day.
Phase 1, Boundary recognition (days 1 to 4). Tone-only mode. You walk your dog on a leash toward the flags. When the beep sounds, call them back toward the house with a reward. No correction at this stage, your dog is simply learning "beep = I back up, I get a treat".
Phase 2, Introducing correction (days 5 to 10). Low level activated. If the dog crosses the boundary despite the beep, they feel a slight correction and understand the consequence. You bring them back and reward them.
Phase 3, Distractions (days 11 to 21). You test the system with stimuli (another dog at a distance, a cyclist, a squirrel). If the boundary holds despite distractions, training is successful.
Pro tip: never give the correction as a "punishment." Let your dog make the connection between the boundary and the sensation on their own. That's what makes the learning stick without causing anxiety.
A common question: is it really humane?
It's a valid question many owners ask, and it deserves a real answer rather than a marketing pitch.
The static correction is similar to the static electricity you feel when touching a doorknob on a dry day. It is designed to surprise, not to hurt. PetSafe is the parent brand of Invisible Fence®, recommended by 4 out of 5 North American veterinarians according to an independent study.
That said, opinions vary in the veterinary community and among behaviour trainers. Our position is simple: it's a tool, not a magic wand. Used with gradual training and supervision, it works for the vast majority of dogs. For very anxious or reactive dogs, "tone-only" mode is often enough. If you have any doubt about whether it's right for your dog, call us before buying, and we'll take the time to talk it through.
