When Petz International launched Tartar Buster® in 1997, the idea was simple: offer dogs a bone that cleans their teeth with no industrial ingredients. No hydrolyzed corn protein, no Yellow 5, no preservatives. Just a bone.
Nearly 30 years later, the formula has not changed — because it works.
The kneecap (the knee bone) of beef is naturally durable. Unlike long bones that can splinter into sharp shards, the kneecap has a dense, rounded structure that wears down gradually. It contains no marrow, which means less fat and much less risk of digestive issues like pancreatitis.
The Tartar Buster® is then dry-roasted — not smoked, not fried, not overcooked. This process concentrates the flavor without adding artificial smoke, and keeps the bone firm enough to do its dental job without breaking into crumbs.
When your dog chews, its tooth scrapes the hard surface of the bone from different angles. This gentle mechanical action loosens plaque before it hardens into tartar. The more your dog chews regularly, the more cumulative the effect: fresher breath, healthier gums, visibly cleaner teeth.
It is not a substitute for brushing or veterinary cleanings — it is a natural complement that supports daily oral hygiene.

🦴 Can my dog choke on this bone? The risk exists with any bone, but beef kneecap is one of the safest shapes: dense structure, no sharp edges, and it wears down gradually. The golden rule: always supervise, and remove the bone when it becomes small enough to swallow.
🐶 At what age can my dog have one? The Tartar Buster is designed for adult teeth. We recommend waiting until your puppy has all permanent teeth (~6 months and up) before introducing it.
🦷 Does it replace brushing or veterinary dental cleanings? No — it is a complement. Brushing and professional cleanings remain essential. The Tartar Buster helps prevent plaque buildup between cleanings.
🥩 My dog has a sensitive stomach, is it risky? In fact, the Tartar Buster is often better tolerated than other bones: no marrow, low fat, one single ingredient. It's one of the reasons Canadian veterinarians have recommended it for 30 years. That said, introduce it gradually.
⏱️ How long does it last? For a medium-size moderate chewer: 30 minutes to 1 hour per session. For a large, intense chewer: up to 2 hours. You can keep it between sessions and bring it back out later.
🔄 What if my dog doesn't like it? Like any treat, about 25% of dogs prefer other textures. If that's the case, email us: we'll suggest an alternative from our range (pig ears, yak cheese, antler). Our goal is for your dog to be happy.
🇨🇦 Is it really made in Canada? Yes — Canadian beef, roasted and packaged in Canada by Petz International (Ontario), since 1997. No imports, no middleman.
📦 Do you have a value size? Yes! The 10-pack is our most popular format (saves about 20% per unit). See the 10-pack →
