🐄 100% grass-fed beef + whole ancient grains + zero legumes
Grass-fed beef (and grass-finished) + rolled oats + millet + quinoa + brown rice + chia seeds. 26% protein, 15% fat, boosted taurine at 0.2%. No peas, no lentils, no potatoes: a balanced recipe for dogs that tolerate grains.
🌾 Why ancient grains instead of wheat or corn?
Oats, millet, quinoa, and brown rice are authentic ancient whole grains, grown for thousands of years. Unlike modern wheat and corn, they are minimally processed, gluten-free or low in gluten, and offer a much richer nutritional profile : soluble fiber, complementary plant proteins, B vitamins, manganese, magnesium, and natural antioxidants. They are also better tolerated by most dogs.
🐄 100% grass-fed AND grass-finished beef
The distinction "grass-fed AND grass-finished" matters: many "grass-fed" operations still finish their animals on grain in the last months. Open Farm sources from farms where the beef is grass-fed its entire life. Result: meat richer in natural omega-3s, CLA (conjugated linoleic acid), and fat-soluble vitamins.
🔍 Radical traceability: the Open Farm signature
Open Farm is one of the only brands in the world to offer full traceability: a lot code printed on the bag lets you identify the farms and suppliers that contributed to that exact batch. Radical transparency that goes beyond standard certifications.

Main source of animal protein. Raised on pasture all its life, with no routine antibiotics or growth hormones. Naturally richer in omega-3, CLA, and fat-soluble vitamins than industrially farmed beef.
Gentle ancient grains for digestion: oats are a source of soluble fiber (beta-glucans) that support gut health and a balanced glycemic profile. Millet provides manganese and magnesium.
Le quinoa offers a complete protein profile (all 9 essential amino acids). Brown rice is a whole grain providing fiber, B vitamins, and slow-release carbohydrates.
Sources of marine protein and omega-3 (EPA and DHA). Natural support for skin, coat, and joints.
Super seed rich in plant omega-3s (ALA), soluble fiber, and antioxidants.
The pumpkin and apples provide soluble fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants. Chicory root is a natural source of inulin, a prebiotic that feeds beneficial gut flora.
Cinnamon helps regulate blood sugar. Turmeric provides curcumin, a natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Added taurine at 0.2% supports heart function.

The Grain-Free Beef recipe is even more premium: it uses grass-fed Wagyu beef with beef liver, and the carbohydrates come from legumes (chickpeas, field peas) and sweet potato. The current recipe (Beef with Ancient Grains) uses grass-fed and grass-finished beef (non-Wagyu), combined with ancient grains (oats, millet, quinoa, brown rice). The price point is also more accessible.
Most dogs tolerate ancient grains very well. True grain allergies are rare (about 1 to 2% of dogs). The most common sensitivities involve wheat, corn, and soy, which are not present in this recipe.
Many "grass-fed" farms still feed their animals grain during the last few months to speed up weight gain before slaughter. Open Farm sources from farms where the beef is grass-fed its entire life (grass-finished). It's rarer, takes longer, and costs more, but results in nutritionally superior meat: more omega-3, more CLA, more vitamins.
Open Farm chose to add taurine in a generous amount (0.2%) across its ancient grain dog range as enhanced support for heart function. Taurine is an amino acid that dogs can normally synthesize, but direct intake is a plus for maintaining good heart health.
Each bag carries a lot code that identifies the farms and suppliers that contributed to that specific batch. It's a unique level of transparency in the industry: Open Farm publishes the full list of its suppliers.
The Open Farm Beef with Ancient Grains food is our choice for families who want premium grass-fed beef combined with nourishing complex grains. It's an accessible alternative to the grain-free Wagyu range for those who prefer to avoid legumes. Traceable, sustainable, Canadian brand.
