Format Pieces vs Patties: how to choose?

Criterion Pieces 227g Galettes 397g
Format Ready-made bites Crumbled biscuits
Primary use Reward, snack, quick topper Substantial topper, travel meal
Bag size More compact More economical per kg

Three ways to use freeze-dried pieces

High-value training reward (preferred use)

Ready-to-use bite-size pieces: ideal for training sessions. More effective than an ordinary treat for working on difficult behaviors: recall, anti-escape, veterinary handling. Keep a bag in your pocket or in the car.

🥗 2. Quick topper on kibble

Add a handful of pieces directly to the kibble ration to boost nutritional value and palatability. Practical for picky dogs or transitioning to a premium brand.

✈️ 3. Complete meal while traveling or at the cabin

Compact, lightweight format that does not require refrigeration. Can be used as a complete meal in the short term (travel, camping, holidays). Lightly rehydrate with a little warm water to increase hydration, or serve as is with water on the side.

Why freeze-dried rather than frozen?

The freeze-drying (freeze-drying) involves freezing the ingredients and then removing the water under vacuum at a very low temperature. Result: it preserves all the nutrients of raw food (enzymes, fragile vitamins, omega-3), without a freezer or messy handling. The finished product is shelf-stable, lightweight, easy to transport, and keeps for a long time.

Usage guide

Training reward

1 to 3 pieces per repetition of rewarded behavior. For a 15-20 minute training session, allow 10 to 20 pieces. Adjust the usual daily rations to compensate.

🥗 Quick topping

A handful of pieces directly on the usual kibble ration. Equivalent to about 10–15% of the ration in caloric value. Adjust the amount of kibble to avoid weight gain.

Complete meal (travel)

About 5 to 7 pieces per kg of the dog's weight per day, divided into 2 meals. Rehydrate slightly with lukewarm water. Preferably for short periods of use.

Storage: at room temperature in the resealed bag. Once opened, consume within 4 to 6 weeks for optimal freshness.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between chunks and patties?

Same ingredients (with one variation: mackerel in the chunks vs. herring in the beef patties), same process, same quality. The format changes: the pieces are pre-cut into ready-to-serve bites, perfect for rewards or quick toppers. The galettes The larger pieces crumble by hand, making them more practical for hearty toppings or complete meals.

Is it a treat or a complete food?

Legally, it's a complete AAFCO foodBut the ready-to-eat bite format is typically used as High-value reward or as topper, rather than as an exclusive meal.

If my dog is allergic to chicken, is this a good option?

Yes. The beef recipe is single-protein red meat. The only other animal ingredient is the whole mackerel (fish) for omega-3s. No chicken, turkey, lamb, or pork.

For a large-breed puppy?

The beef recipe is the only one of the 4 flavors that is not STEP recommended for the growth of dogs expected to weigh >70 lb as adults. If your puppy will reach that size, take a look instead at the recipes Duck, Turkey or Chicken, AAFCO-formulated for all life stages, including large breed.

Why mackerel rather than herring?

Minor wording difference between the chunks and patty versions: the beef chunks use mackerel as the omega-3 source (herring in the patties). Both are oily fish very rich in DHA/EPA, and the nutritional profile remains equivalent.
