Large-breed puppies grow for a long time (15 to 24 months) and their skeleton is under heavy strain. A too energy-dense diet encourages growth that is too fast, which can lead to orthopedic problems (HOD, OCD, dysplasia). By reducing fat (2% vs 7% for Standard Puppy), Acana Large Breed Puppy supports steady, strong growth, helping protect joints over the long term. Protein levels, meanwhile, stay high to build muscle.
🧠 Why is DHA crucial for a large puppy?
DHA (marine omega-3) is a building block of the brain and retina. During the first few months, the brain grows rapidly, and DHA intake affects learning ability, memory, and visual acuity. The larger the puppy, the more its brain needs high-quality fuel.

For a large-breed puppy, the portion depends on its current weight and its estimated adult weight. Growth is longer (15 to 24 months depending on the breed), and it is best not to rush weight gain: a large-breed puppy that is slightly underweight is preferable to an overweight puppy. For a puppy expected to weigh 25 kg or more as an adult. For puppies whose adult weight will be under 25 kg, Acana Puppy (standard formula) is the right choice.
